A Grizedale Tarn circular – Free Lake District Walk

As the crow flies, Grizedale Tarn is only about half a mile from the Visitor Centre, but the walking trail goes there by a more circuitous route.
Stay safe on the mountains. Is this attraction a good picnic spot? In the Sixties artists were encouraged to create their ggrizedale work in the forest, work that came to be called ‘site specific’, that is relevant to its surroundings.

My disappointment was hiking over the several trails, I saw few of the sculptures they had listed. The path loses height as it winds its way through the forest and just before a Y junction is reached, a green and white waymarker to the left of the trail marks a point where a short rocky staircase leads to a narrow path through the trees for about twenty yards and the secluded but pretty Grizedale Walkss appears just ahead.
You can watch the antics of the would-be Tarzans swinging above your head as you make your way to the group of buildings of the visitor centre. Some of the views were superb and the hidden tarns well worth One of the forest trails could be considered a walk option on a day when the tops are affected by rain and cloud.

The white waymarked trail goes east and then south initially before looping round to head roughly north. Sculptures made it a nice interesting walk for the Grizedale Forest used to be a walker’s paradise – miles of marked trails where you could wander in peace and quiet, taking in the views and atmosphere and admire the many sculptures. A new feature since I was last at Grizedale is the Go Ape! Where do we park the car? There is a visitor centre with information Children enjoyed the forest.
