Books by James Gurney. Gurney’s sophomore effort falls short of his first owing principally to a break from the first-person narrative of a found journal that worked so well in the first book. I didn’t actually read Dinotopia beforehand, but The World Beneath was enough incentive for me to start looking for a copy of the original especially after taking a look at the amazing artwork which has won Hugo awards for best original artwork. Journey to Chandara James Gurney 4.

Children are not the only ones who will enjoy this as the artwork is lavish and incredibly logical.
A quest is undertaken to discover the lost World Beneath focuses mainly on Arthur Denison’s return expedition to the World Beneath and opens with Will fly testing an invention of his father, the Dragoncopter — a steam engine ornithopter modeled on the dragonfly.
They really add to the imagination of what life would be like if humans every got to live with dinosaurs. Professor Denison and Will have been living on Dinotopia for dinotoppia years, learning the marvels of this lost island continent where dinosaurs and humans have coexisted peacefully for centuries, cut off from the rest of the world.
It was nice to see some characters from the first beneah used more like Lee Crabb, whose appearance in the first book seemed at first kind of interesting, but was ultimately completely unnecessarybut they still just didn’t seem very deep or human, just some names put to sometimes pretty illustrations. Rather than digital tools, Gurney used ” plein-air studies, thumbnail sketches, models photographed in costume and original cardboard or clay maquettes ”  to create oil paintings for his Dinotopia book.
I had this book dinotopiz a child, and I intend to get another copy, as I cannot find my original. I think a much better story could have been told if instead of writing an adventure story, this book had told about Arthur and Bix’s first expedition into the world beneath, filling in the gap from the first book when Will takes over the journal. Little does xinotopia of them know of the dangers they are about to face
