I like very much how this story moves along. The sacristan caretaker is a jumpy fellow, constantly at the Englishman’s heels, looking over his shoulder. A good sampler, will one day get around to more! I also have an Oxford paperback that contains a great introduction and fabulous, fabulous notes and a few mini-essays of James’ on the subject of ghost stories.
Readers should be aware that “Canon Alberic’s Scrapbook” is peppered with French and Latin words and phrases, some of which are left untranslated.
